I have recently acquired an older machine that has a Siemens Simodrive 611 (Analog) spindle and servo drive. The computer is an old 386, and the interface board is shot, so the machine is not functional. but the seller assured me that the Siemens drive system is functional.
I would like convert this to a Kflop/Kanalog system. I have converted an old bridgeport Knee mill with the Kflop and a homemade interface board and really like it a lot. All the controls for the Simodrive are +/- 10V servo drive with local tachometer feedback, and encoders outputs for the motion control. It looks to me like the Kanalog board would be just right for interfacing to this, but I have a few questions about about the encoder inputs. The servo motors have encoders on them that give 0.001 mm resolution. And according to the manual the rapids can be as high as 450 ipm which results in about a 200 KHz pulse rate.
Are Kanalog differential encoder inputs capable of this rate?
The spindle also has an encoder and a voltage output tachometer. I think the original system used the encoder for speeds up to about 3K RPM. The documentation claims the ability do do coordinated motion with the other axis up to this speed. From 3K to 6K it runs in velocity mode. (tachometer feedback only?)
Any help on this would be greatly appreciated!

Yes that should work.

1,000,000 / (6K/60) = 10,000 quadrature counts/rev = 2,500 quadrature cycles/rev

Do you know the encoder resolution? If possible it would be simplest to always control it with position feedback. The spindle encoder is 2048 counts/rev. So the kanalog board should be just right.
