Hi Tom

I am working with a new retrofit project, and have my AC servomotors with tamagawa magnetic encoders, according to manual, it can be configured as absolute or incremental in the parameter settings, so i should use incremental signal right?, also regarding to encoder inputs, kflop only accept single ended signals, so i should use A+ and B+ encoder output from drives? what i do with the A- and B- ? just leave them floating? or ground them?

thanks in advance

Hi Noel,

Yes incremental mode.

I see it accepts A/B quadrature commands. That would be preferable over Step/Direction.

To connect to single ended inputs connect just one signal and leave the other unconnected. Never ground an output. Note single ended signals are more noise sensitive than differential signals.

i have a question about if i use A,B quadrature signals, manual say use option 1 and option 2 if external low speed pulse train voltage is 12v or 24v, so what would i use low or high speed for quadrature pulse? i am little confusing.

thanks for your help

The note applies to the low speed inputs, regardless of what mode that you're using. My guess is the 0PC inputs are simply adding a resistor to the low speed input circuits to allow for the higher voltage.

I'm guessing the manual lists the limits of the low speed inputs somewhere, but my guess is that you'll want to use the High Speed inputs.

ok, so when i use A,B quadrature signals, i should use PUlSH and SIGNH pins 44, 45,46,47 right?
the rest of inputs are for pulse and direction and cw ccw pwm.

No.

The low speed, or high speed inputs can be used for any of the three input modes.
With the 0PCx simply allowing for 12/24V low speed inputs without having to add an external resistor.

Normally the manual would give a schematic of the drive inputs, to provide clarity on the type of signal that they're expecting.
What drives are they, and do you have a link to the manual?

yes, i have the manual but it is too big to load it here, this is one of the schematics

So going by that, the low speed inputs are opto-isolated, which will be the limiting factor in how fast they can switch, whereas the high speed inputs look to be going straight to a differential receiver.
And the 0PCx inputs are simply adding a higher resistance in series to the optos.

There will be a specification in the manual telling you the maximum speed the optos can handle.
