Next Version & General Queries

Post by Chevvron » Sun Jun 28, 2026 12:45 pm

Tom,

Apologies again for not replying regarding the Set Next Statement but I have been working overseas on another project.

Your proposal :

Could you elaborate more exactly what you are requesting. Maybe add a new Action for when the Operator clicks SetNextStatement? Also add commands to set parameters in the Resume Dialog? And/or hide them?

This is a good solution as it then minimises operator confusion.

Whilst I have been away the 8 axis machine has been working well with an operator conversant with entering mdi commands.
I have to visit on site soon to address a few other issues but did think of adding two buttons to the screen and then usecyour G code action to retract the vertical axis to a safe position, clear datums to absolute, move to the correct mould centre and set the incremental datum.

I think this would eliminate the mdi commands but I cannot try until I am on site ?

On my test Kogna I was running a single axis screen to long term test servo drives.
After about 20 minutes a Read Failed - Auto Disconnect message keeps appearing.
I did think noise but on my return I changed power supplies, ethernet cable, disconnected all external cables and left it running KMotion.
Exactly the same message appears after a random time of 20 minutes +.

Any suggestions ?

I will take the Kogna into the office on Tuesday and try on another Windows 11 pc in case it is my dual boot Windows 7 and 11 laptop though I am running 5.4.1 in Windows 11.

We now have an order for a second 8 axis machine along with a 3 axis manual gauge machine and a 3 axis hole saw cutting machine.
We also have to consider upgrades on our existing large clay automotive milling machines where the software is getting harder to support as Windows versions change.

Your Kogna seems a good way to progress forward but I have a few general queries.

For 3 axis manual machines I need to experiment with the encoder input frequency and scale resolution to make sure operator use or mis-use does not cause loss of axis position ?

I need to experiment with Renishaw probe touch 3 axis latch repeatability based on operator axis movement speed ?

Our machines are generally large, the last machines I have been working on overseas were X axis 11 metres, Y axis 2 metres and Z axis vertical 3 metres.
Currently we use a 3D error map grid.

How could 3D error correction be implemented in KMotion CNC ?

Initially I was backing up the machine installation software by copying files I thought I needed but after an operator corrupted the install I realised I had files missing.
Fortunately I had the missing files backed up elsewhere and now backup the complete Dynamotion directory.

Is this the best way ?

Where are the G54, G55 offsets stored ?

Will there be issues or what do I need to be mindful of with running Dynamotion from a local account with minimal privileges rather than administrator ?

Maybe an installation backup command would be a good idea ?

Can the Console window be displayed from a command within KMotionCNC to display errors ?

Regards,
Tim

Hi Tim,

Regarding disconnects: is Kogna acting as the DHCP Server? If so we found a bug in the DHCP address renewal process that causes the PC to decide after some time that it is no longer allowed to use the address and shuts the address down which causes a disconnect. We are testing a new Version 5.4.3 that fixes this. We should release it this week. It sets the address lease to 24hrs and renews it properly. We tested for 2 weeks without a disconnect. A workaround is to set manual IP Addresses or add a router to do the DHCP assignments.

Tom,
Thanks for your prompt reply.
I will check and experiment tomorrow then update you.
Thanks,
Tim
